Translation of preview to gig on Sat. 19, Plaue “Kneipe Pur” – Märkische Allgemeine
Fascinatingly melancholic:
Ray Wilson and Band perform in “Kneipe Pur”
Plaue. Native Scot Ray Wilson, who will be in concert at „Kneipe Pur“ on Saturday, Feb 19 at 9 pm, gained worldwide renown as singer of British band “Stiltskin”, but most of all as member of the rock legend “Genesis”. In the early 90s he had started in small clubs as singer and songwriter, and there fascinated the audience with his melancholic voice, which he now is going to do again during his “Live and Acoustic” tour. Wilson started his musical career with “Guaranteed Pure”, who released three records in the Edinburgh area in the early 90s.
In 1994 he changed over to Stiltskin, who during the golden age of grunge had an international no. 1 hit with “Inside”, followed by top-10-record “The Mind’s Eye” and concert tours in Europe. “Genesis” released their album “Calling all Stations” in spring 1997 with the singer, featuring the three hit singles “Congo”, Shipwrecked”, and “Not about Us”, which was met with a lot of positive acclaim. But after a world tour and the final gig at Rock-im-Park Open Air in Nuremberg Wilson was dismissed with “Genesis”. Rutherford and Banks dissolved the band shortly after. Now Wilson could take his time to finish, along with his brother Steve, his long-term planned “Cut” debut record “Millionairhead”. Ray Wilson’s acoustic record, which had been recorded during the Edinburgh festival, contains 14 songs, which are not merely personal versions of his career so far with “Stiltskin” and “Genesis”.
After his full-band-tour
in autumn 2004 Ray Wilson will now do some acoustic shows in Germany. He is
joined on stage – like they have done for years now – by his brother
Steve and Irvin Duguid on keyboards. Irvin Duguid manages to even improve Ray’s
already high-quality acoustic repertoire. Songs like “Carpet Crawlers”,
“Fading Lights” or solo material, too, like “Alone”
and “Ghost” definitely profit from Irvins keyboard skills. Irvin
Duguid had already been with Ray as early as during the concerts of his Stiltskin
era. Thus, we can very much look forward to a very versatile set reaching from
Genesis via Stiltskin and Cut to Ray Wilson’s solo records. Ray is also
quite known for clever staging the one or other classic of rock history.
